Summer Student

Birdsell Grant LLP is seeking 1-2 summer students for full time employment from May to August 2023. Birdsell Grant is seeking applications from first year (1L) and second year (2L) law students.

Birdsell Grant LLP is a full-service regional law firm with offices located in Stony Plain, Alberta. We are a small/mid-sized firm, with thirteen lawyers and approximately 25 support staff. We also have offices in Edmonton and Whitecourt, which operate by appointment only. Access to a vehicle will be considered an asset, as travel between all offices may be required.

The lawyers of Birdsell Grant LLP have provided legal services to the people and businesses of Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, Parkland County, Edmonton, Whitecourt and surrounding communities for over 30 years. Our tradition of professional, committed and accessible lawyers and staff has earned us a reputation for providing high quality services to our clients and community.

Our ideal candidate will be enrolled in the first or second year of law school at a Canadian University. We value a positive attitude, strong work ethic, common sense, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The successful candidate will work in all areas of law. Although some work in legal research can be expected, our Summer Students will spend the bulk of their time assisting lawyers in a diverse array of legal matters, including sitting in on client meetings, observing court and other hearings, and reviewing or preparing contracts, pleadings, and other legal documents. The successful applicant will be assigned a “mentor” lawyer throughout the period of employment; however, our Summer Students are encouraged to work with all lawyers in the firm. Summer Students will also have the opportunity to participate in firm and community events.

Our Summer Student program is critical to the firm’s development and growth. Many of our Summer Students later complete their articles with the firm and are eventually offered Associate positions. The lawyers and staff at Birdsell Grant LLP devote substantial time, energy and resources into make each Summer Student’s experience challenging, rewarding and enjoyable.
