Joanna Waldie

Joanna was raised in Olds, Alberta. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta in 2012. Joanna began her legal career with Birdsell Grant LLP as a summer student in 2011, articled with the firm in 2012/2013, and continued as an Associate. She joined the partnership in 2019.

Joanna’s passion for family law grew during her articles, where she appeared before the Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta on contested matters, and assisted clients with reaching out of Court resolutions. She also gained experience in other areas of law including civil and estate litigation, employment law, wills, estates, residential real estate, and corporate and commercial law. This general background gives Joanna a solid knowledge base to assist family law clients, and a unique perspective on the legal issues touching family law.

Joanna practices primarily in family law but continues to assist clients in other areas of the law. Joanna is a registered Collaborative Divorce Professional. While Joanna looks for alternatives to court proceedings to resolve issues, she has experience to advocate on a client’s behalf in Court.

In her spare time, Joanna enjoys cooking, trying new restaurants and staying active. She is currently a board member of the Heritage Agricultural Society and the Association of Collaborative Family Professionals (Edmonton).
