Joanna was raised in Olds, Alberta. She joined Birdsell Grant LLP as a summer student in 2011, and earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta in 2012. Joanna completed her articles at Birdsell Grant LLP, and was called to the bar in 2013. She is currently practicing as an Associate.

Joanna’s passion for family law grew during her articles, where she appeared both before the Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta on contested matters, and assisted clients with reaching out of Court resolutions. She also gained experience in other areas of law including general civil litigation, estate litigation, employment law, wills, estates, residential real estate, as well as corporate and commercial law. This general background gives Joanna a solid knowledge base to assist family law clients, and a unique perspective on the legal issues touching family law,

Joanna practices primarily in family law, but continues to assist clients in other areas of the law. She is committed to using her specialized knowledge and skills to work closely with clients, and to provide clients with effective and creative solutions. Joanna is a registered Collaborative Divorce Professional, and can provide mediation services. While Joanna looks for alternatives to court proceedings to resolve issues, she has experience to advocate on a client’s behalf in Court.

In her spare time, Joanna enjoys cooking, trying new restaurants and staying active. She recently skated with Ice Edition, an adult synchronized skating team, and competed at the national level in ultimate frisbee.
