Joanna was raised in Olds, Alberta. She completed her post-secondary education at the University of Alberta. In 2008, she earned her Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology. Joanna then worked for the University of Alberta in Rural Recruitment for one year. She focused her efforts on the recruitment of high school students from rural areas across western Canada.

Joanna then returned to the University of Alberta as a student to complete her legal studies. She joined Birdsell Grant LLP as a summer student in 2011, and earned her Juris Doctor in 2012. Joanna completed her articles at Birdsell Grant LLP, and was called to the bar in 2013. She is currently practicing as an Associate.

Joanna practices in all areas of law, including general civil litigation, family law, employment law, wills, estates, residential real estate, as well as corporate and commercial law. Joanna has appeared on behalf of clients in the Provincial Court of Alberta and the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta.

Joanna enjoys being involved in the community in a variety of ways. During law school, Joanna was the Producer of Law Show 2012: The Wizard of Laws. She sat on the University of Alberta Appeals Board, and served as Associate Chief Tribune of the University of Alberta Students’ Union Discipline, Interpretation and Enforcement Board. Joanna was awarded the Honourable Constantine Kosowan Award, the Kelly Jenkins Memorial Award and the AI Shumiatcher Memorial Prize in Advocacy.

In her spare time, Joanna enjoys a wide variety of sports. She is an avid Ultimate Frisbee player, a talented figure skater, and enjoys attempting to play volleyball and slow pitch.
